[ Jim's been a mess all day. They've stayed put in the room with the fireplace since they got there, and Jim spent most of the morning huddled in a corner waiting.
As the day wore on, though, he found himself less and less able to sit still. He started a dozen messages to Zell and didn't send any of them, because what if it distracted him? What if he didn't make it back?
The guilt letting him go in the church alone still churns in Jim's gut if he stops to think too long. He tries not to.
By the time Zell makes it there, Jim's pacing outside, keeping an eye on the horizon. ]
Zell?
[ His voice is quiet at first, but then Zell's getting closer really quickly on his snowboard and Jim starts running toward him on a collision course. ]
[ Zell is a mess, but for very different reasons. When he fell while struggling with his body bag, he dislocated his shoulder. He took care of that, but there's no telling if he used excessive force or not. He can't really feel it or anything else. At least he was able to figure out his price quickly.
Snow boarding is easier for him. He can just zone out and think about anything else, like what he'll do when he sees Jim. Or find out what even happened. It was strange and sudden. He didn't even feel how he died. It just happened.
When he's closer to the house the are set to meet at, he sees someone out there. It doesn't take long to figure it's Jim. He starts to speed up, only to realize maybe he shouldn't do that. Putting on the breaks and then he miscalculates and winds up wiping out completely. ]
[ Jim goes down with him, the pair of them sending up an enormous cloud of powder. The wind's knocked out of him, and now he's freezing and a little wet, but that's not stopping Jim from scrambling up immediately and trying to pull Zell, too, so that he can look at him. ]
[ And down they went. And then he's on his back, coughing because of impact and snow. He can hear the scrambling and he moves to get up too while his boyfriend tries to help him up. Zell can't feel it but it's amazing just to see Jim. See him and those beautiful eyes... He finds himself laughing, and after failing to get up, he just grabs Jim and pulls him on him. ]
Hey, come here. Let me look at you, Stars.
[ Zell is in one piece. Everything is fine. There might be bruises under his clothes, but he doesn't seem bothered by the cold or anything else. ]
[ Jim's eyes are a little wet when Zell catches them, but he's laughing as he goes right back down into the snow with Zell. They're both soaked anyway, might as well enjoy it. ]
Look at me? I've been sitting around here moping. Not much to see, Sunshine.
[ Unlike Zell, who died. Jim runs his gloved hands over Zell's face, not really mindful of how cold they might be, and around to rest on the back of his neck. ]
[ His nose is turning red cause it's cold, but he doesn't feel it. He pouts, but it drops back into a smile. ]
I can warm you up, Stars.
[ Sorry for being disgusting, Zack and Kunsel. Zell does get up finally, but he's slow about it. His attention going between Jim and then where he places his feet to make sure he's not going to step wrong. ]
How long has it been?
[ He hasn't even checked the network outside of contacting them for meeting place. ]
[ It feels like too long for him too. A WHOLE DAY without seeing him in the morning sucks. Zell snags his hand, but seems a little unsure about how much force to use in holding it. ]
Huh? Whoa! Just a day?
[ And at the question, he shakes his head. Giving his hand a squeeze. ]
[ It's definitely feeling weird, now, the way Zell's holding him like he could accidentally break him. The explanation makes sense with what he's seen, though he doesn't like it at all. ]
-Even the cold, right?
[ Jim's guessing, but he thinks it's correct anyway. ]
Let me.
[ He shifts his grip a little in Zell's hand, the better to guide him with. ]
Even the cold. Going to warm me up when we're inside?
[ Zell is just really, really glad to see his boyfriend again. Trusting him to guide him and set the pace as he looks at their linked hands. It's actually bitter sweet. He can recall how it feels, but he really wants to feel it again. The warmth and how their hands fit together. ]
[ Jim gives Zell his best grumpy look, but it's not very good. He's too relieved to have him back to grumble, even while his heart twists imagining what Zell's feeling. ]
It's not too tight. You can - you can hold as tight as you want to.
[ He tightens the hold a little, but is still being careful. Swinging their linked hands. He's just happy and wants to stare at that beautiful face for a long time. ]
[ Jim hopes so, anyway. He's just as eager to make up for lost time, judging by the way he tugs Zell over to the nearest soft surface as soon as they're indoors. Brushing the snow off of him with gentle hands is interrupted by a flying ball of fluff, unfortunately. ]
[ Jim stands back, watching with warm fondness in his eyes as Zell gets reacquainted with the rather happy cat. Morph comes over to investigate, too, though he sticks closer to Jim. That probably has something to do with the unshed tears he can feel forming in his eyes. ]
[ It's like....a vague pressure. He couldn't even tell what Jim was doing until he realizes it can be only one thing. He shifts the cat in his arms to free an arm. Just going to reach to run his fingers through his hair, while trying to give him a kiss back. He's trying not to over think it, and just letting instinct take over. ]
Yeah, I know what they mean. I still can't wrap my head around it.
[ It's just off enough to feel weird, different from the way Zell so often throws himself into kissing Jim. Jim shifts the kiss down to his neck and settles there to talk. ]
[ Jim takes his other hand, holding to it tight for a moment before easing up. The attempt at finger snapping would be kind of funny under any other circumstances. ]
Man, I wonder why. Is it something bad or they didn't want us seeing something?
[ Someone else will have to take over cause he doesn't think any of them should try again. Also he's not going to realized Jim is holding his hand so his fingers will continue to try to snap... and then he sees what Jim is doing. ]

I still like looking at you.
[ Turning his head to kiss against those gloved hands. It's probably very cold, but he's not feeling it. ]

[ Jim doesn't register how light the touch is, but he's noticing the cold. ]
Inside, where we're not freezing our asses off anymore.

[ Jim's not even lying about that, it was the worst night he's spent here. ]
-A day.
[ Jim's sounding a little distracted, though, as he watches Zell get up. ]
Are you sick again? You're moving slow.
[ Maybe he hurt Zell when Zell fell over? ]
no subject
Huh? Whoa! Just a day?
[ And at the question, he shakes his head. Giving his hand a squeeze. ]
Not sick. I just can't feel anything.
i am left with weird icons, forgive me

There's my favorite cat.
[ He can hear the purring and can imagine the feel of it. Rubbing his face into the fur, even if he can feel it. ]

-He really missed you.
[ He wasn't the only one. ]

Hey little guy. Been looking after Jim for me?
[ Speaking of... he does lean in close to press a quick kiss against the corner of Jim's eyes. ]

They were confused about what happened.
[ Since Zell was there one minute, and then - well. ]
no subject
Yeah, I know what they mean. I still can't wrap my head around it.

I didn't even know what was happening.

Yeah it happened like... [ He tries snap his finger. ] I reached for the door knob and then woke up in the morgue.

[ Obviously, considering what happened to Zell. ]
It's protecting itself. Which means we were headed in the right direction.
